<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt;">To
understand the mystery of our Divine selves; isn't that what we all yearn
for?

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt;">In the quiet
corners of your heart, do you feel the pull of the Divine? Do you know there is more than <span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">what you can see, what you can
touch?

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt;">Have you had
those <span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">experiences?

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt;">Coincidences
you probably called them, or déjà vu. Or you see something out of the
corner of your eye and know something is there, but brush it off as the light
flickering or a shadow cast from the sun. Maybe you locked eyes with an
animal and saw into their soul and then felt your own soul too. Felt a chill
go down your back or a soft caress on your cheek when no one was around.

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt;">If so, your
Higher Self is reaching out, trying to connect to you, asking to be remembered.
Your Higher Self wants to show you the magnificence that you are a part of!

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 115%;">I was reminded this morning of
our connection to our Higher Self, each other, and the Divine Oneness all
around us, by a visit from my friend the chickadee.

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Chickadees are very special
birds. There are seven kinds of chickadees. Seven is significant because
it is a sacred number signifying the individual rising from the material plane.
The symbolism of the number seven is vast and this list is by no means
complete. The number seven represents creation. This is based on the
number three, symbol of the Divine, and the number four, symbol of the human
world, added together to equal seven. There are seven major chakras, the
energy centers in our body and seven levels of our auras. In Christianity
God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh. There are
seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, seven deadly sins and seven virtues. In
Hinduism there are seven worlds in the universe and seven promises in a Hindu
wedding. In Islam there are the seven levels of heaven and seven gates to
hell. In Judaism there are seven branches to the menorah and Moses
received the Torah seven weeks after fleeing from Egypt. Shivah, which means seven, is the first seven
days of mourning. People of the Jewish faith sit Shivah for seven days.

Looking at the larger species of birds, birds <span data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">are symbols of the bridge between
humans and the Divine and their ability to fly signifies aspiration and
transcendence.

Specific to the chickadees, they have a black cap on their heads. The color
black signifies the feminine and mystery. The feminine is symbolic of fertility
and rebirth. The cap being on the head is symbolic of higher thinking and
perception.

<span data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">Together
the message of the chickadee is enlightening! It is a
message of connecting to your Divine self through understanding the mystery of
your higher truth. You are a spiritual being and it is time to remember your
power and your truth.

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Next time pay
attention when you feel the pull of the Divine.
When the lights flickers, the chill goes down your back or you lock eyes
with a beautiful animal friend, know that it is your Higher Self and the
Universe reaching out to connect. Take a
moment and reach back.

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; line-height: 115%;">

Self created illusions of fear and
regret. Is that even possible? To create in our minds and hearts those things
that are not there? Are our fears and regrets real or are they simply
perceptions that we create? More importantly, where do these fears and
regrets come from and how much of what we worry about has actually come to
pass?

I ask you these questions as I ask myself the
same. What purpose do our fears and regrets offer? Are they
beneficial to us? Do they serve our highest and greatest good? Or
could they possibly inhibit us, prevent us from moving forward and experiencing
joy and our best self?

This week as the Vernal Equinox is upon us I
believe it is a good time to ask ourselves these questions. As Mother
Earth prepares for the arrival and renewal of Spring, so should we prepare to
renew our connection with our self and others; to give great attention to our
thoughts, our words, and our deeds.

Are our thoughts positive and
encouraging? Are our words compassionate and kind? And are our deeds
helpful and allow ourselves and others to move forward on our paths?
Together are they generous in their gifts and gentle in their delivery?

Or do our thoughts, words, and deeds, driven
by our fear and regrets; stifle our ability to live and to experience our lives
to the fullest, with love and gratitude in our hearts for ourselves and each
other.

It is no surprise that the frogmouth, an
Australian bird with ties to the owl, flew into help us this week. One of
the messages of the frogmouth is synchronicity and gleaning wisdom from your
spiritual elders. As we walk along our spiritual path we realize that
what we believe is synchronicity is usually Divine intervention.

The frogmouth, known for its camouflage, reminds
us that we need to look further, delve deeper because things are not usually as
they appear. The wisdom of the frogmouth tells us to look to our
spiritual elders. Our elders, through
experience have gleaned much insight on how to handle and release the stresses
and struggles in life. They teach us the fears and regrets that hold us
hostage are simply not real, but perceptions our egos create.

Who are these spiritual elders we should
ask? There are many and they are one. Some people may look to their
God, the Divine Spirit. Others will find their answers from Mother Earth
and nature in all of its forms. Still others will look inward, to their
Higher Self for answers. They are all correct.

Ask your questions until you can ask no more,
and then ask again. Open up your heart and spiritual mind and invite your
spiritual elders to communicate with you. Let them know that as Mother
Earth is preparing for the renewal of Spring, so too are you ready for renewal,
your spiritual renewal. Be as still as how a frogmouth sits in the crook of a tree and your answers will come.

Listen to the wisdom of your elders and see
through any self-created illusions of fear and regret. Release them and step into your power not
only as a human being, but as a spiritual being. Share your newfound wisdom
and your love with others and live the life that you came here to.

Six more weeks of winter the groundhog forecasts! As we let this news settle over us, it is difficult not to get disheartened. It has been an extremely cold winter this year. Below freezing temperatures coupled with many dark, grey days make it hard not to feel sluggish and uninspired.

But don't lose hope! The rabbit has hopped in to give us inspiration. When the rabbit visits us he brings a message of opportunity! The ground may be cold and frozen right now, but it is fertile ground indeed!

You must pay attention. As swift as a rabbit is, so will the opportunities materialize. But they will leave just as quickly. Rabbit medicine lasts about 28 days, a lunar cycle, the time the young are dependent on the mother.

Just as a rabbit is known for its ability to make great leaps, his message is to take a great leap of faith. Go after the opportunity that is appearing to you.

So listen to rabbit. Follow your dreams. It is a fertile time and opportunity in knocking. Act quickly and take that leap. Shake off those dreary doldrums.

Old man winter has got nothing on you!
My second meeting with a bat was eerily similar to the first. Again, it was 2:00 in the morning with the promise of the new day still wrapped in its dark cloak. The time when it feels as if the whole world is asleep, and the only sounds to pattern your breathing after are those of the tree frogs noisily exclaiming their presence. It is a time for rest.

This time I didn’t feel a flutter, but I heard a weird, vaguely familiar noise, a kind of whoosh. It sounded like a bird. No—it sounded like a bat. But that couldn’t be possible. What were the chances?

There was only one way to be certain; I would have to turn on the light. I laid there for a moment, hoping the noise had been my imagination, or that I could will it away. Whoosh! It was not my imagination. I realized I simply couldn’t ignore it and let the tree frogs lull me back to sleep; I sat up, held my breath, and turned on the light. As the light flickered on, the last vestiges of my hope vanished, as a bat swooped down over my bed!

“Oh my God!” I screamed, still not prepared for what I knew I would see. I jumped up and ran into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me.

“Steve! There’s another bat, get rid of it!” I shrieked as my mind raced and my heart pounded, surprised he had not been woken up by the flurry of my movements and the shrillness of my cry. I heard a frantic rustle of the sheets, and then Steve’s voice was at the bathroom door.

“Patty, I need you to come out of the bathroom,” he said calmly. “I need your help.”

“No! No way!” I replied emphatically.

“Patty I need you to get a container for me. We need to trap it, remember?” he said evenly.

“Can’t you get something?” I pleaded, praying that I could safely stay in the bathroom until the threat was gone.

“No,” he said, this time sounding exasperated. “I need you to get something.”

“Ugh!” My fear of rabies, instilled in me by co-workers, barely beat out my fear of the bat. Tired, scared, and trying to figure out why Steve couldn’t do anything by himself, I acquiesced.

I slowly opened the bathroom door, and, as the bat flew in frantic circles above me, I covered my head and quickly ran out of my bedroom. Safely away from the bat, I deliberately took my time as I searched for something large enough to hold our uninvited visitor, never wanting to ever return to my bedroom. I eventually found a large popcorn tin, the kind they sell around the holidays, and reluctantly went back upstairs.

I gingerly opened the bedroom door and half-expected to see Steve flailing a towel, as he valiantly tried to catch the frantic bat. Instead, he was lying on the bed. Lying on the bed!?!

“What happened? Where’s the bat?” I asked, hoping he already threw it out the window like the last one.

“It’s trapped in the bathroom. I am tired and will deal with it in the morning.”

“What?!?” I replied incredulously.

“Go to sleep, it’s fine,” Steve assured me.

Against my better judgment, but knowing I couldn’t do anything to change his mind, I laid back down. I tossed and turned for about another hour or so, starting about a dozen conversations in my head explaining to Steve why we couldn’t wait until morning to trap the bat. I knew he wasn’t in the mood to hear any of them, so I stayed quiet. Finally, when my heart calmed down enough and exhaustion was starting to take over, I started to doze.

The next thing I knew, I was awakened by the faintest of sounds. First it sounded like a light tapping and then kind of like a whoosh. No way! Not possible! I flipped on the light and froze. In utter disbelief, I watched as a bat swooped down and flew across the room! This can’t be happening! It was like a bad dream!

“Steve, get up! The bat is back!” I frantically cried.

I couldn’t believe it; questions swirled around in my head. How could this be? Wasn’t the bathroom door closed? Was there a second bat? How did it get in? Why does it have to be in my bedroom?!?

“Get me a towel!” Steve shouted at me, rousing me back to the moment.

I ran and got a towel, threw it to him, and slammed the door behind me. I stood in the hallway, trembling. I listened as fragments of sound leaked through the closed door. Steve emerged holding the popcorn tin. He had somehow grabbed the bat in the towel and threw him in the tin. Where it should have been the first time, I thought, but I kept my criticism to myself.

“Is the lid on tight?” I questioned.

“Yes,” he irritatingly replied.

“Are you sure?” I asked again.

“Yes,” he said, sounding very annoyed now. I double checked it myself anyway, my confidence in his judgment lessened.

Drained, we brought the tin to the garage and checked the rest of the house. Every curtain was lifted, every lamp shade was inspected, and every piece of furniture was looked behind. Once we felt confident the rest of the house was clear, we opened the bathroom door. The bat was gone. Somehow, the bat in our room was the one that was trapped in the bathroom. I didn’t sleep the rest of the night.

When the first rays of sunlight were peeking up over the horizon, I got up and made some coffee. I wasn’t able to fall back asleep and I really needed to clear my head. Steve left for work, the girls went to school, and I stayed home on bat watch until the Animal Control officer came.

Officer White was an arrogant older man, having done his job longer than even he would like to admit, and seemed to take a perverse pleasure in my nervousness.

“Well let’s take a look at him,” he said as he reached for the popcorn tin lid. I pounced, stopping him immediately!

“What are you doing? You can’t take the lid off . He’ll fly away!” I nervously exclaimed, confused that I had to explain this to him. He chuckled, that “aren’t you being silly” chuckle men sometimes use with women, and said he’d look at it at the office.

Anxious for some answers, I related what had happened the night before. He explained that bats cannot simply take off into flight from the ground. They have to climb up something and then they drop to fly. That was the tapping sound I heard, the bat climbing up the bathroom door. I shuddered, imagining the bat digging its claws into the wood during its ascent. The whoosh sound was the bat dropping down to fly! He also said that bats can flatten their bodies to squeeze through almost anything. As I looked at the bathroom door, I noticed a half inch gap at the bottom. Funny I had never noticed that before. The best we could figure out was when the bat flew into the small bathroom it somehow got knocked to the floor. It then squeezed through the bottom of the door, climbed up until it was high enough, and then dropped and started flying. Honestly! This was definitely the last time I was going to listen to Steve!

“Will you release him once the rabies test is done?” I asked Officer White.

“No ma’am,” he replied. “There won’t be anything to release,” he went on.

I was confused. What did he mean?

“We need to kill the bat to perform the rabies test,” he explained.

“Wait!” my mind wavered. Kill the bat? I hadn’t realized that.

“There’s no other way to test him,” he assured me.

Once again, my fear of rabies won out, and I reluctantly watched as Officer White left, popcorn tin in hand. I told myself we did the right thing by trapping the bat and having it tested. At least I would know it hadn’t given me rabies.

That is until a friend said, “Why would you trap and kill that poor animal?”

“Well it might have had rabies,” I reasoned with her.

“Of course it doesn’t have rabies. It was probably just as scared as you, probably more so,” she responded.

“The poor animal?” My defenses went up. Are you kidding me? “No one was more scared than me!” I assured her.

But her words troubled me. Maybe, just maybe, there was something to what she said. Perhaps I had made a mistake and the bat wasn’t there to hurt me, but to help me. I remembered my book on animal totems. I pulled it back out and started to read.

The book reminded me that when studying animals as totems or messengers, it is very important to understand the behaviors and characteristics of the animals, as they are symbols of their messages. The animals, or God through the animals, energetically communicate with us through their unique qualities.

Bats make up nearly one-fifth of all mammals, and with more than 1200 diff erent species of bats, they are probably one of the most feared and most misunderstood animals. Bats, I believe, are feared by humans for many reasons.

Bats are nocturnal animals flying at night, the time that most fears arise in humans. They typically live in caves and hang upside down when they are sleeping, which is not a familiar behavior to humans. Bats range in size from just over an inch to ones called giant flying foxes with six foot wingspans, which is intimidating to say the least. They are not typically thought of as cute furry animals like so many others we see and are often depicted with their mouths open and teeth bared. Though only three species of bats ingest blood for nutrition, we often think of them as blood thirsty vampire like animals associated with Halloween.

However, studying bats you realize that they are extremely helpful animals. The fruit eating bats fly long distances at night over large open areas of land, spaces that other animals are afraid to cross for fear of being out in the open. While flying, they propagate the earth on a much greater scale than birds or primates, dropping seeds and defecating as they go. Their droppings called guano, is also a wonderful fertilizer.

Bats are powerful totems and their message is one of promise after a change. Since bats are “reborn” from the earth’s caves each night, the bat message is one of death of an old way of life and rebirth to a new. If a bat flies into your life, you must face your fears and see what part of your life is not working for you any longer. Spiritual and emotional growth cannot happen without change. It is time for that old part of your life to die, so that you can be reborn, stronger, healthier, and happier than before.

Change can be very scary, just as bats can be scary, but without death there is no rebirth, or promise of new growth like the plants that they help germinate. Go inward, and be honest with yourself. Is your life all that it should be? Or is it already dying around you and you’re too busy or scared to notice? Embrace the transition, listen to that still small voice within, your God voice, and you will soar to new heights.

Wow. At the time I knew I was stressed and tired, but I really didn’t think it was anything more than that. My life was fine. I had the marriage, the kids, the job, and the house. What more could I want? And what would I possibly want to change? I made a mental note to try and take some time for myself. I decided that was all I needed, some time to relax and refocus.

Problem solved. Or so I thought...
</xml><![endif]-->I have heard it said that “a door never closes without
another opening up” for us and I believe that saying holds some real merit.
When we are faced with a devastating loss sometimes the only thing we see in
front of us is that closed door. Our heads do not seem to move to notice that
just over there on the other wall is a new door and it is standing wide open.
Our animal spirit guides will often show us the way to the new door. I believe
that Sister Deer did that very thing for me with a gentle nudge during a very
dark time in my life.

It has been almost twenty years since I came home one
afternoon to find that my husband had taken his life in our garage. I could not
believe it! I kept telling myself that it was all a very bad dream and that I
would wake up soon. Well, it wasn’t a dream and I realized that my future, at
that point, had some real challenges ahead for me. I wasn’t sure that I was up
for the challenge, to be totally honest. I had two teenage daughters to support
and I wasn’t sure how I was going to do that by myself. It didn’t matter that I suddenly had a huge
gaping hole in my heart, what did matter was the reality that I was now a widow
faced with a new life that I had not chosen for myself or my daughters.

The mechanics of daily life went forward with me being more
like a robot than the loving person that I had been before. I am sure that if
you have ever suffered the loss of a loved one, you can imagine what those
first several weeks were like. I did what was required of me but little else.

One cold winter afternoon there was a knock at my door. When
I opened it there stood an old friend from High School that I had not seen in a
very long time. He had come to see if there was anything that he could do for
me and my daughters. I thought that was
sweet but would have preferred to just be left alone. I thanked him but firmly stated that there
wasn’t anything that he could do and that I really appreciated his coming by.
He was not one to take no for an answer and insisted that he could at least
take me out to lunch. I had stared at the walls long enough that afternoon that
for some reason I accepted his invitation.

Lunch was nice with him doing most of the talking. After we
finished he suggested that we go for a drive in the country like we used to do
“back in the day”. At first I said that I would really rather not but again no
was not a word he would accept and the next thing I knew we were driving down
some roads that I had not been on in years.

The scenery was pleasing in a way that I had not realized
that it would be. We came to a spot in the road that had fields on both sides with
one area having a fence that marked the ending of one person’s property and the
beginning of another. That is when I
saw her! Sister Deer was standing at the fence with two fawns. She looked right
at me and nodded her head. She nuzzled one fawn, looked at me again and then
nuzzled the other. She looked at me one last time and a thought came into my
head, “You will be alright, open your gentle heart again.” Sister Deer then
walked away with her two little girls following after her. At that point I knew
without any doubt that I was going to be OK. My daughters would be OK.

Tears were streaming down my face and I looked at my friend
and smiled for the first time in weeks and said, “I’m going to be OK. I’ll
survive this! Wasn’t the deer beautiful?”

“What deer?” he asked.

Back then, I had not learned much about my totems. I knew
that for some reason animals came to me in dreams and sometimes in life but had
not really thought about it much. All I knew was that my heart was much lighter
and the future did not look so bleak anymore because a deer had told me so. She
came to me as a mother and reminded me that the gentleness of love heals our
souls.

This week as we continue moving forward on our spiritual path we have
the good fortune to be visited by the cow. The cow is symbolic of the
Goddess, is associated with Mother Earth, and brings to us her
nourishing energy.

Cows have long been associated with
fertility, motherhood, and generosity. Since ancient times and in many
religions, they are honored and associated with deities. In India the
cow is considered a sacred animal. Hathor, an ancient Egyptian goddess,
was depicted with the horns of a cow and was associated with the Milky
Way which was thought to be the milk that flowed from a heavenly cow.

Today
cows continue to nourish mankind with their milk. They
are also extremely patient and gentle beings giving no resistance in
their service. Some people believe that cows are not very intelligent
as they are easily led to service, while others believe that cows as
spiritual beings do understand and are willingly and generously being of
service to humans.

Nourish yourself as you gratefully
receive and share your blessings. Willingly and generously be of
service to others. Experience the sweet abundance that comes from the
nurturing of yourself and others. This is the wonderful message of the
cow.

Happy New Year! It is a time
for reflections, resolutions, and new beginnings. As we reflect back
on the ending of one year and look forward to the next, our usual
thoughts are very singular and limiting. We think of all the things
that we didn't achieve, things we want to improve about ourselves or our
situations, or things to do differently going forward.

The
bee has very conspicuously flown into our lives now to tell us to
stop! Stop focusing all of your intentions on all of your shortcomings
or ways to improve yourself. Instead make room to acknowledge all of
the wonderful things about you! Reflect on all of the things you did
well. Resolve to continue to be the shining Light that you are! Make
your new beginning one of excitement and hope and commit to move forward
on your path.

The
message of the bee is to celebrate! Celebrate you and your life! Look
at yourself and your situation and be grateful for all of the wonder in
your life! Just as the bee spends its day extracting the sweet nectar
from the flowers, we need to spend our time savoring the goodness that is us and is all around us.

The
bees honeycomb is in the shape of a hexagon and is representative of
the heart. Speak from your heart. Think from your heart. Feel the
emotion of your heart. When you come from your heart, a place of love,
only goodness can follow. Extend that love to yourself too!

Bees
are also part of a larger community. Their hives are always buzzing
with activity, all the bees doing their part. Step out of your comfort
zone and become part of your larger community. Interact, participate
and volunteer for the greater good. We are all interrelated and every
person is a valuable part of the larger whole. We need you!

So
as we begin this new year let us listen to the message of the bee. Let
us step forward confidently and celebrate all that is right with us!
Let us come from a place of love and remember we are all an integral and
necessary part of the whole. Let us continue to walk our path. It is time.

How appropriate that today, in the midst of this very sacred season,
the blackbird came to call. The haunting, flute like song of the
blackbird calls deeply to our souls, to remind us of our spiritual self
and purpose. He knows we have many paths we can travel, and he asks us
to stay on our true path, our souls path, as we walk in this world.

The
blackbird's flight is low and straight giving a sense of purpose and
determination. He spends much of his time not only in the air but on
the ground foraging. The blackbird asks us to move forward deliberately
and with confidence as we find our balance between our instinct, the
physical, and our intuition, our Spirit. Follow your mind and your
heart and embrace not only the gifts of the physical world but go inward
to bring forth your spiritual gifts as well.

It is
time to walk your true path. Let the blackbird guide you. Listen to
your inner voice, your God voice, and follow your souls call to
remembering and living your souls purpose.
Our first week brings us the ram as our totem. This is very good
news! Symbolizing Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, the ram is a
symbol of breakthroughs and new beginnings for us!

The ram is an
auspicious totem and brings an ability to manifest our dreams. The
powerful horns are a ram's strength and symbolize asserting your own
strength to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.

The hooves
of the ram are also very important. They are covered with an elastic
material that aids in gripping the sometimes difficult terrain. The
hooves remind us to keep our heads about us, stay grounded, and not to
fear going forward, because we are secure and will not fall.

Finally,
a word of caution from the ram. Just as the ram butts his horns
against another ram to show his strength, be careful not to butt your head against a brick wall or lock horns with another.
Keep your focus, remember your passion and your abilities are your
strengths, and just like the ram you will achieve your breakthrough!

"What is that outside in the yard?" I thought noticing something out of the corner of my eye. I swung around to look and was shocked to see a giant brown bear lumbering through my back yard and coming straight for my house.

"Oh my goodness!" I cried as I ran to close the back door.

The bear was headed straight for my back door too. I reached it seconds before and as I was trying to close it, the bear also reached the door and pushed his way in. I tried to keep him out but I was no match for him. He didn't push forward in a ferocious sort of way, but more in the way of he was just coming in and if I was smart, I would move out of his way. I did!

Scared I ran down the hall and down the stairs to the basement. Nervously I fumbled with my phone and started to dial 911 for help. I heard the bear upstairs walking around, bumping into things. He didn't seem to be upset or purposely destroying things... he was just making his presence known!

I was shocked. I was confused. How could there possibly be a bear upstairs in my home? As he didn't seem intent on hurting me, my fears started to fade... a little. It was then that thankfully I woke up.

Animals, acting as animal totems, have messages for us. They can present themselves to us physically, in meditation, or in our dreams. The brown bear in my dream was a message for me. Researching the behaviors and characteristics of bears and analyzing the circumstances in my dream affords many clues as to my message.

Bears have great mythology surrounding them and are symbolic of Mother Earth and our connection to the natural world. The bear is known for its ability to hibernate and the hibernation teaches us to go within. It is symbolic of connecting with our subconscious
mind and bringing forth the information we have deep inside. The bear teaches us to be still and quiet to hear our messages. Once we have connected to our Spirit, it is important for those working with bear energy to also come out of hibernation, and share our gifts and messages with the world.

The bears love for trees and honey that is found in the hives in the trees is also very telling. The trees stretch from Mother Earth up to the heavens and are connections between us in the physical realm and the Divine. The bears are known to mark the trees with their claws telling us to leave our spiritual mark on the world. Their love for honey is symbolic of the importance that while searching for our Spirit, to still enjoy the sweetness of life while we are in physical form.

That the bear was coming into my home and through the back door also gives many clues. The home is representative of the heart center and the back of your house is symbolic of things that are more personal and private in nature.

I know the bear coming into my house, from the back, was a direct message to me to go inward, listen to my heart, and hear the voice of Spirit. My Spirit is reaching out to me.

It is time for me to be quiet and listen. It is time for all of us to be quiet and listen. The world needs us to pay attention. The world needs us to step into our power as spiritual beings and create the positive shift into higher consciousness that is waiting for us. It is time. Will you listen too?

Yesterday I was asked to pull an animal totem card for a woman that was struggling with some family issues. Not sure of her family issues but sure that Divine intention is always at work, I said a prayer and pulled her card. The card I pulled was the goose. Yes, Divine intention manifested once again.

Geese are known for many things. The mother goose with her gaggle of goslings is a familiar picture in our minds. Geese are also known to mate for life. Together they are symbolic of a strong family unit or family type relationship. Geese are also valued for the large and nutritious eggs they provide. Some legends speak of the goose that laid the golden eggs. The eggs, specifically the golden ones, are symbolic of our own ability to create richness in our lives.

The message of the goose for the woman was to understand her family was strong. Whether her family is a large family with her spouse and children and extended family, or a small family with just herself and a parent, or any other unlimited combination of what makes up our family units. Even if her family is simply herself. Her family is strong.

How is this possible? How can a family be strong in any and all combinations? Be strong with only one member? It is not only possible, it is our Truth.

As the holidays are approaching, family or a lack of it, is on our minds. For many years I used to worry about holiday celebrations. Who would come? If there wasn't a large crowd, then for me it wasn't a celebration. Somehow it would be lacking. I created so much stress for myself trying to have the 'perfect' family get together. This year I am celebrating Thanksgiving alone.

I am celebrating Thanksgiving alone. There I said it. It feels good. I am looking forward to it. The family I will be with this Thanksgiving will be myself...

And with all of you. I will also be with all of the beings in the natural world, seen and unseen. I will be with my angels and my guides. I will be with the Divine. Actually I really can't be alone if I tried and neither can you.

We are all a part of the Divine. The Source that is in me, is in you. God is in all of the beings in the natural world, seen and unseen. Our angels and our guides are part of the Oneness. Whatever name we use, we are all connected. The Spirit of God runs through all of us. We are One.

We are Family. Our Family is strong. Our Family is grand. Our Family is Divine.

We have much to celebrate. We have many golden eggs. Our lives are full of the richness of our shared Spirit. Revel in our Oneness. Feel the connection we have to each other and all beings.

We are Family.
to help yourself feel better? Searching
for the perfect job, relationship, or experience? Thinking that once you achieve them you will
feel better, only to realize the feelings of peace, satisfaction, and joy are
fleeting?

We all have. I believe we are all
searching for something. The
something that will quiet our minds, provide comfort to our souls, and fill our
hearts with joy.

Everyone in their own way is searching.
But why are we searching and what are we really searching
for? I believe we are searching because we are feeling a deep dislocation from
our Spirit, a disconnection to our true essence. We are searching for that connection, our
connection back to our soul.

The stress, discontent, and sadness occur because we are feeling the
separation from Spirit that we have created.
We live our lives from the perspective of our ego, the human shell we wrap
around ourselves. As such we think there
is a separation. But there is no
separation. We are spiritual beings. We are One.

But there is more. We are also
searching for our connection to each others Spirit and our connection to all
of the beings we share our world with. For you see, their Spirit, is also our Spirit.

We are one. The Spirit of God, the
Divine, the Source that is in you, is the same Spirit that is in every other
being. We are connected. That which you do, and feel, and say, you not
only do to yourself, but you do to and for the greater Spirit that we are all a part
of.

How is this possible? There is a oneness. The oneness is our connection. The oneness is our truth. The oneness is
the Spirit of God.

How can we remember this? We can look to the dragonfly for help. Dragonflies are very ancient beings and are associated with the realm of light. <span data-ft="{"tn":"K"}" data-reactid=".r[3bmhr].[1][4][1]{comment334407653360448_1667263}.[0].{right}.[0].{left}.[0].[0].[0][3]"><span data-ft="{"tn":"K"}" data-reactid=".r[3bmhr].[1][4][1]{comment334407653360448_1667263}.[0].{right}.[0].{left}.[0].[0].[0][3]">They remind us that our Spirit is also light, Divine light. to our true Spirit. When we understand
our Spirit is shared with all beings, our minds will be quieted, our souls will
find comfort, and our hearts will feel lasting joy.
Wow I had an incredible dream last night! I am not one to have vivid dreams or easily remember them, but this one was different. I remember every detail with clarity.

For some time I have been asking for understanding and remembrance of my power as a spiritual being. To fully realize my psychic abilities and increase my communication with the Divine. On my spiritual journey I have sought and received guidance through various means; people, situations, and animals. I believe all of the guidance received to be precious gifts. My dream last night was no exception.

In my dream I was in a house with many people. Suddenly it started to storm. I happened to look out a window that had a view overlooking the ocean. The wind was strong and the sea was rough. I was startled to see a whale fighting the tide trying to come to shore. I could tell the whale was not a baby, but certainly not full grown yet. I thought due to its young age, it must have gotten confused.

"Oh no, stop!" I cried out to the whale. "You are going the wrong way!" I knew the whale couldn't hear me but I was at a loss as to what to do. "Look out the window!" I shouted to the others in the house. "There is a whale trying to come to shore." No one paid any attention.

As quickly as the storm started, it ended. I ran outside to see what had happened to the whale. I was dismayed to find that it had in fact beached itself. But it didn't beach itself on the sand. Somehow in my dream, the whale was able to beach itself between two cars, in a parking space by the house!

As my mind tried to wrap itself around this turn of events, a car tried to park in the parking spot. "Stop!" I yelled to the car. "There is a whale in the parking spot!" The driver of the car didn't hear me. I frantically tried to think of a way to help the whale. I ran into the garage looking for a barricade to put around the whale. I found a large bright orange bike. Grabbing it, I wheeled it outside and put it in front of the whale, thankfully stopping the car from parking there.

My neighbor walked outside to greet her guest. She and her guest were unfazed by the whale. Their only concern was where they could park the car. I was dumbfounded. Didn't anyone else care?

I had to help the whale. I knew some people that were familiar with whales and had the resources to help me get the whale back into the ocean. I called all of them. They were either busy or uninterested.

I finally realized it was up to me and me alone, to help the whale. I then woke up.

Groggy from sleep, I had an overwhelming feeling of concern. However, this concern quickly turned to gratitude as I realized that through my dream, I was given more guidance. I looked up the significance of the whale.

Whales are ancient mammals and are thought by many cultures to be the record keepers of the sacred knowledge of Mother Earth. Whales ask us to reconnect to our deep soul connection to the natural world and our universal consciousness. To remember our own sacred knowledge, our true essence.

Whales are also known for their songs. The vibrational sounds the whales emit are significant and speak to the vibrational energy of all life. Listening and responding to the call of creation can teach us to go within to bring forth our own creative life force.

Additionally the color orange represents creative energy. It is very significant that the bike I chose to protect the whale was orange. In fact, all of the items I had to choose from in the garage were orange.

Finally realizing in the dream that I was the only one that was willing and concerned about helping the whale tells me that going forward I alone am responsible for my own spiritual answers. As the whales are the record keepers of Mother Earth, so I am the record keeper of my own soul. I already have the answers. We all already have the answers. We just need to reconnect with our own vibrational energy, our own creative life force to remember.

There is a saying that you should 'always trust your dreams, for they have chosen you as much as you have chosen them'. I trust my dream last night was meant to give me the guidance I have been asking for. My answers are within. It is time to remember.
I love that old Louie Armstrong song! Makes me smile every time I hear it. There is such an untouched innocence to it. It speaks to a time in my heart when things seemed much simpler. "And I think to myself, what a wonderful world"...it could be.

It could be a wonderful world if today I didn't feel sadness deep within my heart. The kind of sadness that I can't really explain. The kind of sadness that I find myself at a loss to understand why there is a knot in my throat and tears coming to my eyes. When the most random interactions with people leave me feeling down. Nothing special happened today to cause me to feel this way. No one did anything out of the ordinary. It's actually quite an extraordinarily beautiful day.

Now I don't always feel it, this sadness. Most days I feel great. But then there are days like today. The kind of day when it seems as if my mind keeps wandering to my sad thoughts. The 'what's wrong with me' thoughts. The 'everyone has someone' thoughts. The 'what am I doing to deserve these feelings' thoughts.

"Ok, ok stop it!" I chastise myself. "Stop feeling sorry for yourself!" "You have worked too hard and come too far to feel like this again!" I sternly remind myself.

I breathe deeply and start doing the work... again. What have I learned? What do I know that can help me? I fervently search my thoughts for bits of information I know are there. Hard earned truths that have helped me before. And then thankfully I hear them. Why is this coming up for me again today? What am I supposed to learn from these feelings? What am I not addressing?

And then I hear the biggest truth of all. Stop judging the experience and just feel the emotions! Wow that's the hardest one of all. Losing the judgment. The judgment of myself and my experiences. Remembering we are here to experience life! In the experience is the emotion. In the emotion is the gift.

But wait! That still doesn't explain why it's coming up for me today. Why am I experiencing these emotions again now?

I know my Spirit knows. We already know the answers. We just have to be quiet long enough to hear and pay attention to messages that are all around us. "The animals, look to the animals" I hear my heart saying. But I haven't seen any animals lately. No animals have presented themselves uniquely or repetitively to me lately. How could the animals have a message for me? "Think deeper" I hear my heart say again. Wait! I know! The toad. Many times over the past few days people have specifically brought a toad up to me. No other animal... just the toad. Random people that have read or heard about my book are asking me about the symbolism of the toad. The toad, through other people, is being presented to me.

Well! I am very familiar with the symbolism of a toad! The toad is an amphibian. Amphibians go through a process of metamorphosis. Toads change from an egg, to a tadpole, to a toad and periodically shed their skin. If an amphibian is your totem, the message is one of adaptability and significant personal change. You can experience a major shift or transformation, a metamorphosis.

My first thought is "not again!" Thankfully my second thought is "with change, comes growth" and isn't that why we're here? To learn and grow through our experiences? Taking a deep breath I dry my eyes. I have learned to welcome the messages and remind myself not to judge, just trust. And suddenly... I think to myself, what a wonderful world!
Today on a beautiful New England autumn day, with the crisp air, a slight breeze, abundant sunshine, and the leaves on the trees bursting with color, I had the pleasure to go to a local farm to pick pumpkins. I was all set to enjoy some apple cider and cookies while I looked for the perfect accompaniment to our fall decorations.

However, as we entered the farm I was surprised to see an enclosure with three pigs in it. There were no other animals around so this seemed out of place to me. As I dallied, one pig came right up to the fence and stared directly in my eyes as if to say "Hey look at me!" So I did. I stood there watching the three pigs eat, burrow in the ground rooting around for food, and snuggle together in the mud. They were really very cute and very content just lying in the mud.

Suddenly a young boy and his dad came up to watch the pigs. "They're really very dirty huh?" the boy said. "Yes they are," the dad replied unimpressed as they walked away.

I was struck by their perspective and dismissive attitudes. Dirty? Why of course they are dirty. They are staying comfortable and cool lying in the mud. No one is helping them or paying attention to them. No one cleans their enclosure or bathes and grooms them. Most domesticated animals would be very dirty if humans didn't care for and pay attention to them. The pig is no exception.

And then I was struck by another thought. Isn't it that way with our dreams and desires? The ones we care for and pay attention to are the ones that flourish. The dreams and desires we set as our intentions and put our energy behind are the ones that we manifest. The ones that we leave alone to wallow in the mud of our busy lives, seem to get stuck in that same proverbial mud. Just like the pigs who without care and attention are content to burrow down in the mud and snuggle in there, our dreams and desires without our focused intentions set on them, are content to snuggle in the comfortable busyness of our lives.

It is not until we are willing to become uncomfortable and put our dreams and desires in focus, that we can manifest them. The message of the pig is the same as the wild boar. Interestingly the boar is the warrior spirit and can help you get in touch with your inner primal power. As a pig burrows, so you need to burrow deep inside and find your power, and uproot your determination to manifest your dreams and desires. It will take your focused intention to manifest your dreams, but with your care and attention, you will release them from the busyness of your life and you and your dreams will soar.
Feeling a little stressed? Wish it was still Sunday
morning and you could relax with a cup of coffee and your favorite blog?

Mondays more than any other day of the week can seem overwhelming. What to do? Why not take our cues from our animal friends! One of the smallest, but most industrious animals, the cute little mouse can give us some tips!

Mice are considered to be intelligent and organized creatures. They pay attention to the details and keep very tidy homes with different areas for food, sleep, and bathroom functions. They are also quite curious, adaptable and fearless. Despite their small size, they are very good jumpers, swimmers, and climbers. Mice explore their surroundings and are not afraid if new items are put in their path. They also have sharp front teeth and use them to chew big items into little pieces so they can handle them.

If a mouse visits you, the devil is in the details. You, are either not paying attention to the little things, or your focus is so specific, you’re not seeing the forest for the trees.

Since the birthing cycle of a mouse is rather quick, and they have multiple ones a year, a mouse totem also signifies an ongoing process of manifestation. This is awesome news, since you can manifest whatever you set your intention to!

No need to feel stressed or overwhelmed. Just like a little mouse does, take it one fearless step at a time, break your tasks into manageable parts, pay attention to the details and before you know it.... voila! Success! Suddenly Mondays seem a little less overwhelming!
Our rituals are as varied and rich in meaning as we are as human beings. Celebrating the day we were born, our birthday, is one of the most meaningful and celebrated of all.

Why do we do this? Why do we celebrate the day of our birth? Is it to help us mark the passages of our lives and to take a moment each year to be mindful that our lives are being lived? To celebrate that our journey has continued for another year? To stand in our truth as human and spiritual beings and make a conscious decision on the direction we will be taking going forward?

I believe it is all of these reasons. The recognition of what has passed and an opportunity to move forward in our lives. And with movement, comes change. As conscious beings we know that change is inevitable. It can be thrust upon us or it can be sought after. Change can be thought of as a blessing or as a curse. But change will come. As we evolve as spiritual beings, we can look on change as an opportunity for growth. Growth requires shedding of the old and embracing the new.

To honor my birthday and the changes in my life, I am celebrating the animal that has been most persistent in the messages of change for me. The animal that was once the one I most feared. The animal that showed me it was time for me to start the process of my spiritual rebirth. Today I am celebrating the bat.

Bats are powerful totems and their message is one of promise after a
change, a rebirth. Since bats are “reborn” from the earth’s caves each night, the
bat message is one of death of an old way of life and rebirth to a new.

Bats I believe, are feared by humans for many reasons. Bats are nocturnal animals flying at night, the time that most fears arise in humans. They are not typically thought of as cute furry animals like so many others we see and are often depicted with their mouths open and teeth bared. Even though there are over 1200 species of bats, and only three species of bats ingest blood for nutrition, we often think of them as blood thirsty vampire like animals associated with Halloween.

If a bat flies into your life, the message is to face your fears and see what part of your life is not working for you any longer. Spiritual and emotional growth cannot happen without change. It is time for that old part of your life to die, so that you can be reborn, stronger, healthier, and happier than before.

Change can be very scary, just as bats can be scary, but without death there is no rebirth, or promise of new growth like the plants that they help to germinate. Go inward, and be honest with yourself. Is your life all that it should be? Or is it already dying around you and you’re too busy or scared to notice? Embrace the transition, listen to that still small voice within, your God voice, and you will soar to new heights.

Yes! In celebration of me, and all of you on your spiritual paths, let's embrace this moment. Stand in our truth and see what our soul is saying to us. Step forward confidently knowing that God leads us exactly where we are supposed to go. A toast to new beginnings!
Understanding the mystery of our Divine selves. Isn't that what we yearn for? The chickadee brings us that message.

Chickadees are very special birds. There are seven
kinds of chickadees. Seven is significant because it is a sacred number signifying the individual rising from the material plane. The symbolism of the number seven is vast and this list is by no means complete. The number seven represents creation. This is based on the number three, symbol of the Divine, and the number four, symbol of the human world, added together to equal seven. There are seven major chakras, the
energy centers in our body and seven levels of our auras. In Christianity God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh. There are seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, seven deadly sins and seven virtues. In Hinduism there are seven worlds in the universe and seven promises in a Hindu wedding. In Islam there are the seven levels of heaven and seven gates to hell. In Judaism there are seven branches to the menorah and Moses received the Torah seven weeks after fleeing from Egypt. Shivah, which means seven, is the first seven days of mourning. People of the Jewish faith sit Shivah for seven days.

Looking at the larger species of birds, birds <span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">are symbols of the bridge between humans and the Divine and their
ability to fly signifies aspiration and transcendence.

Specific to the
chickadees, they have a black cap on their heads. The color black signifies
the feminine and mystery. The feminine is symbolic of fertility and rebirth. The cap being on the head, is symbolic of higher thinking and perception.

<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">Together the message of the chickadee is enlightening! It is a message of connecting to your Divine self through understanding the mystery of your higher
truth. As you experience your spiritual rebirth, be mindful that just as when the seven chakras are balanced in your body, you are open to a higher level of healing and consciousness, you should always express your truth in a healing and balanced way. When
you do, you will bring joy to yourself and those around you, just
like the joy a chickadee brings!
I am excited to start my very first blog! I have recently published my book God is in the Little Things; Messages from the Animals. It is my intensely honest, emotional, and spiritual
journey from
loss and sadness to finding joy through understanding my true spiritual
self. My story is Divinely guided and written and told through the
visits of animals, acting as animal totems, that God sent and the
messages He had for me. My story is a story of hope and healing.

Come along with me and see your world through a different lens!
A lens that reveals our connection with all beings and explains the messages our animal friends have for us!

Totems, or spirit animals, are our animal friends. The behaviors and characteristics of the animals are studied because they are symbolic of their message. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> <span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">The belief is that the animals energetically
communicate with us whether through their own spirit or God communicating
through the animals. This belief has been a part of many cultures throughout history, including the ancient Egyptians, the Druids, and the American Indians. For centuries man has looked to animals and the symbolism of their unique qualities, to garner guidance, strength, and inspiration.

The number of animals that visit you, the direction that they come from, and the landscape they are in, are also very symbolic and yield much information. There are differing beliefs on whether or not all people have animal totems, how many totems they may have, and whether they are constant in your life. However, many people do agree that animals can act as life totems, and stay with you throughout your life, or they can come into your life for a period of time with a specific message for guidance.

If you want God, the Divine, to connect and communicate with you through the animals, simply be open to the possibility. Invite the animals to visit you, and then pay attention to your surroundings. Be aware of whether the animal is doing something unusual or repetitive, something possibly out of character for the animal. If so, be thankful, and ask yourself what message does God have for you?
